Where independent tennis coaches can hire courts in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs

Which venues let outside coaches teach, roughly what they charge, who to contact, and where coaching isn't allowed.

Quick answer

  • Most Eastern Suburbs clubs run coaching in-house, so options for independent coaches are limited.
  • Sydney Boys High School is the best option: 4 hard courts, about $50/hr for coaches, arranged with the operator, Indeep Tennis.
  • Bondi Tennis Club (3 synthetic grass courts, about $60/hr) and Latham Park (4 synthetic + 2 hard, about $58/hr) allow coaching by agreement with the club.
  • Bayside Council courts allow coaching at roughly the normal court hire rate, about $30/hr.
  • Not allowed: Baker Park (no commercial coaching) and Rushcutters Bay (coaching is in-house).

Why it's hard to find courts as an independent coach

Most clubs in the East run their own coaching programs and employ their own coaches, so many courts simply aren't open to outside coaches. In my view that has made it harder for independent coaches to build a business here, and it narrows the choice of coaching for players.

There are still good options if you know where to ask.

Venues that allow independent coaching

Coach rates below are what coaches have been quoted, not published prices. Every venue sets its own terms, so confirm with the venue before you book clients in.

Where you can't coach

  • Baker Park, Coogee: Randwick Council doesn't allow commercial coaching on these free courts.
  • Rushcutters Bay Tennis: coaching is run in-house by the venue.
  • Most private clubs: coaching is in-house unless you have an agreement with the club.

Tips for setting up an arrangement

  • Ask for the coach rate in writing, and whether it changes at peak times.
  • Ask whether the venue needs proof of coaching insurance and accreditation.
  • Agree how court bookings work: a standing weekly slot is easier for both sides.
