Quick answer

  • Free: Baker Park in Coogee (2R Carr St). No booking needed; Randwick Council opens and locks the gates daily.
  • Cheapest beachside club: Coogee Beach Tennis at $32/hr for non-members.
  • Cheapest paid courts overall: Eastside Tennis Centre at $25/hr weekdays before 3pm, and Prince Alfred Park at $28/hr.
  • Council courts are the best-value option: Bayside Council courts such as Aloha Street in Mascot are about $19/hr in my experience (confirm with the council on 1300 581 299).
  • Most expensive: Bondi Tennis Club at $46/hr flat, then Cooper Park at $40/hr.

The hidden gem: Baker Park, Coogee (free)

Baker Park's courts are completely free. You don't book: Randwick Council staff open the gates each morning and lock them in the evening, so it's first in, first served.

Commercial coaching isn't allowed there, so it's for hitting with friends, not lessons.

Council courts: about half the price of clubs

Council-run courts are the next best bet. Courts on the Bayside Council list, such as Aloha Street in Mascot, cost about $19/hr when I've booked them, compared with $40 or more at some clubs. Council rates change, so confirm with Bayside Council on 1300 581 299 before you go.

Mutch Park in Pagewood is also on the Bayside list. It's managed by Sydney Sports Management Group at a flat $32/hr with easy parking.
